Handicapping
All 4BBB Par, Stroke or Stableford events must be handicapped under the Golf Australia system with the following conditions applying. A 4BBB Aggregate is classed as a novelty event and is a non handicap event.
- Scores are processed as stableford scores irrespective of whether the competition is played as a Par, Stroke or Stableford.
- The pair must have at least 42 points (6 up in Par or net 6 under in Stroke).
- An individual’s score appears on the card at least 9 times.
- The adjusted score produces a differential which is equal to or better than the individual’s handicap.
- If two identical net scores are recorded on a hole, both scores are eligible for adjustment unless it is obvious to the committee which player holed out first, in which case the second player is deemed to have not recorded a score for the hole.
- The procedure for creating individual scores for handicapping purposes is to allocate 1 point if they have no handicap stroke and 1.5 points if they have 1,2 or 3 handicap strokes on the hole where their score is not recorded. The total is rounded to the next lower whole number. (35.5 becomes 35)

If you WITHDRAW during an event, you should return your card with “Withdrawn due to illness/weather/emergency/injury” written clearly at the top of your card and do not enter a score into the touchscreen computer. If the committee considers the reason to be valid, your result then is entered by the committee as “NCR APPROVED” and your handicap is not affected. If your card is simply missing, your result is entered as “NCR NOT APPROVED”.

If you pick up on a hole/s in a stroke event but return scores for all other holes, you are disqualified from the competition, but the committee will allocate to you a stroke score on that hole (or holes) which is 2 over your net par for that hole (e.g. 4+1+2 on a par 4 where you get one shot). Your total score is then entered into Golf Link for handicapping purposes.

Checking Handicaps. As cards from previous competitions may have been entered into Golflink after the printing of the handicap on your card, you may need to check your handicap before entering a result for the game just played.
Bunkers Filled With Water:
A player may take relief from casual water in a bunker and the nearest point of relief must be in the bunker and no closer to the hole (Rule 25 -1b(ii)). In accordance with this Rule, a player experiencing interference from casual water always has the option of dropping their ball outside the bunker, under penalty of one stroke. If a player chooses this option, they must keep the point where the ball lay directly between the hole and the spot on which the ball is dropped – with no limit to how far behind the bunker the ball may be dropped.
A committee may not make a Local Rule providing free relief in general from bunkers because of flooding. This would waive a penalty imposed by a Rule of Golf contrary to Rule 33-8b.
If a committee conducts a competition with a Local Rule allowing general free relief from water-filled bunkers, the scores must not be used for handicapping purposes.
Where certain specific bunkers are completely flooded prior to the round commencing and there is no reasonable likelihood of the bunkers drying up during the play of the round, the Committee may introduce a Local Rule providing that specific bunkers, which are known to be flooded prior to the round commencing, are deemed to be ground under repair and classified as through the green. If such a Local Rule is in place, relief may be taken outside these bunkers without penalty in accordance with Rule 25-1b(i).
Whether a bunker contains a small amount of water or is completely filled, the Rule regarding abnormal ground conditions (NB casual water is an abnormal ground condition) caters for all possibilities (see Rule 25-1b(ii)).

Reinitiating Handicap for Player Who Has Previously-Held an Australian Handicap or Recognized Overseas Equivalent
(i) When a player (who has previously been a member of an affiliated Club) joins a Club after a period away from handicap golf, the Handicap Manager or Handicap Committee of the “new‟ Club must reinitiate the status of the player’s last-recorded handicap (using the player’s archived GOLF Link handicap record if applicable) even if there is good reason to consider that a lower or higher handicap is more appropriate to the player’s current ability. If the player’s handicap record is not available, the player’s handicap must be reinitiated in accordance with the process described in Section 3B.
Creating New Handicaps:
In order for a player who has NOT previously held an Australian Handicap or recognized overseas equivalent to obtain an Australian Handicap, the following process must be followed:
(i) Have the player clarify in writing that they have not previously held an Australian Handicap or recognized overseas equivalent.
(ii) The player must submit three cards which will be adjusted by the Handicap Manager or Handicap Committee by treating any score by a male of more than 3 over par at any holes as 3 over par, and treating any score by a female of more than 4 over par at any holes as 4 over par. Any stipulated Extra Day or competition round of between 9 and 18 holes inclusive returned on ANY course with an ACR will be acceptable for this purpose (subject to the normal additional conditions a Club may place on Extra Day Scores).
Note: This adjustment is only made to the initial three cards.
(iii) After the adjustments have been made, the difference between the amended score and the ACR of each card is ascertained (note: Gross Score – ACR = Handicap Differential). Once three scores have been returned, the resultant three handicap differentials are compared, with the two worst handicap differentials being disregarded.
The office staff member who is on the Handicap Committee (Wendy) allocates new handicaps and informs the Captains.
